Storyline:
In the early 1970s during the Cold War, the head of British control, intelligence, resigns after an operation in Budapest, Hungary deteriorated wrong. Control seem to believe that one of four senior figures in the service was in fact a Russian agent - a mole and the Hungary operation was an attempt to determine which of them is. Smiley was forced to retire by the departure of Control, but is asked senior government figure to investigate a story told to him by an agent trick island, Ricky Tarr, that there was a mole. Smiley said that the failure of the Hungary operation and the continuing success of the Wizarding activities (an apparent source of Soviet intelligence ; significant) confirms this, and have to find him.
